Many of the exhibits at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing in York Springs, Pennsylvania, focus on the Keystone State’s rich heritage of oval racing, particularly on dirt, but true cognoscenti realize that Pennsylvania’s straight-line roots run nearly as deep. This coming Saturday and Sunday, the EMMR’s annual Spring Open House focuses on drag history, with a new display of legendary vehicles on hand.

Among them will be the Revelleader Funny Car of Mickey Thompson, the “bubble gum” AA/Gas dragster once campaigned by the late D.A. Santucci, and the “black arrow” 1965 Plymouth Belvedere that earned the immortal Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins his first major Super Stock win, at the 1965 NHRA Winternationals. Memorial blocks will be dedicated to Jenkins, Super Stock hero Ken Montgomery Sr. and to Ron Wallace, who ran the wonderful South Mountain Dragway in Boiling Springs for many years. Guests will include Dr. Dick Berggren of FOX Sports and magazine fame.

The EMMR’s open house is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds just off U.S. 15. For more information, visit EMMR.org.
